Susan Boyle

Susan Boyle, as presented to you by the Los Angeles Times:

Less than a week ago, she was just another 47-year-old Scottish virgin.

I guess when it comes to encapsulating a person's essence, selflessly putting your life on hold to dutifully care for an ailing parent simply pales in comparison to the state of your hymenal tissue.

Yeah, really. I'm so sick of her being referred as a virgin, and having that be her defining characteristic. It's disrespectful, embarrassing, and reductive; the mere mention of it is a value judgment, as if she's incapable of being loved or sexually valued.

Well, more people probably care for their parents than are virgins at 47, so it certainly characterizes her better.
