How Pastor Chuck Phelps "Church Disciplined" a 15-Year-Old Pregnant Rape Victim

A 38-year-old man rapes a 15-year-old girl. The girl and her mother tell their pastor what happened and he promptly reports the accusation to police and child welfare authorities. So far, so good, but since this story is about religion and female persons don't get your hopes up.

The pastor then decides the rape victim needs to be "church-disciplined" so church leaders make the girl apologize to the congregation for, you know, getting pregnant out of wedlock. The pastor also counsels the mother to ship her pregnant daughter off to another state which forces authorities to shelve the initial investigation since they don't have a victim to testify:

CONCORD, N.H. – Tina Anderson was a scared 15-year-old when she was summoned by church leaders to stand before her congregation and apologize for getting pregnant out of wedlock.

Just minutes earlier in that evening service in 1997, a longtime church member admitted publicly that he had been unfaithful to his wife.

Now, 13 years later, Ernie Willis is charged with raping Anderson, and police are investigating what church leaders knew about the assault and whether they shipped Anderson out of state to keep the matter quiet.

When the pastor heard Anderson's allegations, he told her that if she had "lived in the Old Testament," she would have been stoned to death for not reporting the attack sooner.

"He also said I had 'allowed myself to be put in a compromising situation,' Anderson said. The pastor decided she needed to be "church-disciplined."

"I was completely humiliated," Anderson said, her voice quavering at the memory. "I hoped it was a nightmare I'd wake up from, and it wouldn't be true anymore

This is just another example of how so called men of the cloth like Phelps cause he doesn't deserve to be called a pastor or man of God. Where was your sense of justice for the victim? a scared little girl taken advantage of by a sick, disgusting man. and the perverts wife should have been an advocate for the young lady seeing as she's a woman and probably a mother. This is the world we live like in the catholic church where we make the victim the victim again by making them fell even dirtier because of a violation done to them. I hope they never let this asshole phelps back in another house of worship.

Why haven't they charged this Phelps (I won't refer to him as a Pastor) with interfering with a police investigation and child abuse? He knew a man in his congregation had sexually abused a 15 year old girl and still allowed this man in his church and participate with children on field trips. So to sum it up he gave a pedafile access to children.

It makes me curious, with the abusive tone of the church "Pastor" Phelps leads, if he is related to another "Pastor" Phelps, Fred Phelps of the ultra-hate group, Westboro Baptist Church that has set out on a self-appointed mission to punish the US, especially grieving families burying their children for the alleged support by the US for homosexuals. The hatred and abusive attitudes seem so similar.

Why don't we all get our facts straight before judging Pastor Phelps. Go to his web site and read his statements. If you are basing your judgment on our "noble" news media you are being foolish. The same people who faked documents about presidents are not above twisting truth for a news story.

Would like to know how this man gets away with this.

He and his pig for a wife should be sent to a jail with criminals just like them and get a taste of what that Tina endured.

And to all the people of this so called cult like church, really?

Are you that weak you should give a slob like this the power over you?

@bill, of course blame the child, but he told her she should be stoned like the victims of Bin Laden followers. You sir are a traitor to the ideals of this great country.

Have you read Phelp's statements http://www.drchuckphelps.com/after-the-trial.html ? He is an innocent man who went to the police, the government, and referred her to a doctor. What more could he do?
