NuvaRing Breakthrough Bleeding
If you are using NuvaRing, the vaginal contraceptive ring on an extended regimen, and you experience breakthrough bleeding or spotting [for at least 5 consecutive days], remove the ring for 4 days, store it, and then reinsert the ring. [Use a backup birth control method for those 4 days.]

For how long is the ring then good? Total 30 days from first insert? Or good for 30 days from reinsertion?

Total 30 days from first use.
Fortunately, I haven't had any breakthrough bleeding since my first month or so of continuous NuvaRing use. In fact, I removed it for about 5 days a couple of times last year at my doctor's request, and I didn't even bleed then. It's a beautiful thing!
I've had lots of issues with my nuvaring. I didn't use it in May and had heavy pregnancy symptoms and no period. Then when I restarted after seeing a doctor I had a horribly heavy period and now am having lots of issues with breakthrough bleeding especially when we have sex which has been embarrassing. I'm considering switching back to ortho evra patch.
I'm on my second month and have break through bleeding this time around. About 10 days now and I'm supposed to have my period in 5 days from now. I'm sure I won't stop bleeding until my official period is supposed to be over, so my guess is that I will bleed for 20 days straight! I called my doctor and he said to try it for one more month and see what happens. That the hormones are adjusting. If I get bleeding again next month, I am so not doing this anymore! Condoms, here I come!
I'm not supposed to have my period for another month, because I'm doing the every 3 month period plan. I have been bleeding for 5 days! I'm having horrible PMS symptoms, and mood swings. I feel like I'm pregnant again! I was told its just the hormones adjusting, but how long does it take for them to adjust? Ive been on the ring for 2 months, and I've bleed for most of the 1st month, and I was thrilled when it finally stopped, but now its starting again!
ive used the ring for a while before my second child and she is almost 3 and i have been using it since and never had problems..lov ed it.. but the last 2 months i have had breakthru bleeding this month worst than last so ive been taking it out early..i think i might try the mirana next..
I think you guys meant 28 days instead of 30. Just 4 full weeks from the date of insertion, correct?
I have been on the nuvaring for almost 5 years now. Last year I had some breakthrough ovulation (noticed by cyst formation) but even after seeing my doctor he recommended I stay on the nuvaring. I just inserted my latest nuvaring one week and 3 days ago and starting yesterday, I have had thick "old blood" discharge. Should I take the nuvaring out? Or continue with it in until my three weeks are up?
Omg I'm having the same problem 16 days straight, starting to hate it
i took my nuva ring out early i had a period im bleeding now
I have the EXACT same symptoms. So frustrating! I was getting worried, hate that you are going through the same thing, but relieved this is not as uncommon and scary as I originally thought.
I'm using the ring for hormonal treatment for endometriosis, and my gyno instructed me to stick it out for six months. Hormone therapy/correction takes a while to happen, it doesn't happen overnight, within a few weeks, or even a couple of months. I skipped my first month's period and am almost through my second month of using the ring, and I am on day 11 of bleeding. It's annoying, but it'll be worth trying to keep this up if it helps down the road. So don't lose hope, ladies, I know this aspect of being a woman is God awful, but we've got this! I believe in us!
My first time using the nuva ring. I just had my IUD removed on Sept. 18 and had the Nuva ring placed in. On the 21st I had intercourse. I checked to make sure the ring was still in and it was. I have been bleesing aince then and unsure if I'm suppose to remove the ring or what. Please lend some advice.
