Very nice drawings of vaginal tears from the Mayo Clinic (Warning: graphic).

Many years ago as I was lying in a hospital bed after my son was born I discovered that the mission of OB nurses was the see if you'd had a BM post-birth. If not, then they had their ways!

I'm lying there listening to her harass the woman in the next bed about it. When she finishes she turns to me and says, you had a rectal tear, no enema for you!

I knew I was sore but didn't know that was the cause, and I thought to myself, oh thank goodness, I don't have to do the enema

Now some years later I find out it wasn't that great a thing. Good thing nobody ever told me.

Not cool that they didn't tell you about the 4th degree, but, really, an enema!? That's a tad aggressive.
